At 82, Glenda Jackson shows no signs of slowing down. Fresh out of his triumph Tony Award in "Three Tall Women", the game's legend has already aligned his return to Broadway. And it's a doozy.
Next spring, Jackson will star in William Shakespeare's "King Lear". It's a part that is widely regarded as one of the most demanding and demanding ever written, requiring tremendous endurance and the ability to go from scenes of tenderness to those of full anger.
The show is supported by superstar producer Scott Rudin, the man behind Oscar-winning successes such as "No Country for Old Men" and stage blockbusters such as the current awakening of "Hello, Dolly!"
Jackson already has a complete trophy case, having picked up two Oscars and two Emmys, but Lear's role could bring him another Tony. She was nominated for an Olivier Award when she starred in London, but lost to Billie Piper for "Yerma."
"King Lear" will begin previews Wednesday, March 6, 2019 and open Thursday, April 11, 2019 A play will be announced at a later date.
Jackson's work includes "Women in Love," "A Touch of Clbad," "House Calls," and "Sunday, Bloody Sunday." In the series "Elizabeth R." from the BBC, Jackson took a long break from the stage and screen, spending 23 years as a member of Parliament.
