Major airports and infrastructure, GMR became the highest bidder for the Bhogapuram International Airport project in the open field, for which the Andhra Pradesh Government issued a call for tenders from potential developers last July [19659002]. Although seven players, namely GMR, GVK Power and Infrastructure Limited, Reliance Airport Developers Private Limited, Essel Infraprojects Limited, Must Infra, the National Fund for Investment and Infrastructure (NIIF) and Fairfax India Holdings – appointed by the nodal agency, only three companies had submitted their bids when the deadline for submission of bids expired on 22 February.
The state government had proposed to build this new international airport in the northern coastal district of Vizianagaram, an alternative to the existing Vizag Airport, which is a dual-use airport facility partially under the military control.
