Today, Google celebrates the 124th birthday of Georges Lemaitres, popularly known for his hypothesis of the Big Bang theory.
The Doodle shows Lemaitres at the center of a "constantly expanding universe" that he had first theorized in his works.
Lemaitres was born in 1894, and was trained in physics at the University of Cambridge, Harvard University and at MIT. It was Lemaître who had proposed that the universe begin as a "primordial atom," which he called "the cosmic egg." His theory was derived from Eintein's theory of general relativity. But Einstein rejected it saying, "Your calculations are correct, but your physique is atrocious."

Two years later, Einstein accepted the concept of Lemaitres
In 1927, Lemaitre published a paper, where he said that the universe was expanding. The theory was echoed by Edwin Hubble, and he mentioned it in his diary in 1929.
According to Google Doodle Lemaitre had accurately estimated a numerical value that was later known like the Hubble constant. The Hubble constant is a unit of measure that describes the rate of expansion
More than Lemaitre, it is Hubble who received the recognition of having found the idea of the theory of the Big Bang. However, later Lemaitre received his due.
Lemaitre was also a Belgian Catholic priest.
