Former US First Lady Michelle Obama made a surprise appearance at the opening speech of the 61st Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday and was greeted by a standing ovation from the crowd of stars.
Grammy host Alicia Keys kicked off the series by inviting Obama, 55 , as well as Lady Gaga, Pinkett Smith Jada and Jennifer Lopez, to share personal anecdotes about how music has changed their lives and empowered them as women.
Obama, wearing a silver and shimmery costume has been briefly interrup ompu by the crowd excited by the applause at the beginning of his comments.

"From Motown records that I've brought to the South District to" Running the World "songs that have nurtured me over the past decade, music has always helped tell my story Obama said, referring to the Chicago neighborhood where she grew up.
Obama is currently on tour to promote his "Becoming" dissertation, which has been published in the United States and in 28 languages around the world. She and her husband, former US President Barack Obama, signed a contract for a book with Penguin Random House a month after the departure of Obama in January 2017.
"That we love country, rap or rock, music helps us to share, our dignity and our sorrows, our hopes and our joys, "said Obama. "It allows us to hear each other, to invite us."
