Actress Alia Bhatt's mother, Soni Razdan, and her boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor's father, Rishi Kapoor, praised her new film, Gully Boy, on Twitter. In a series of tweets, Soni congratulated the director Zoya Akhtar and wrote that the music of the film resonated in his ears.
Gully Boy is partly based on the lives of Mumbai rappers Divine and Naezy. The film stars Ranveer Singh as future rapper named Murad.

Gully Boy has been unanimously hailed by critics. In the four-star review Hindustan Times, Raja Sen calling it "the first big film of 2019", wrote: "The writing is fascinating, the fantastic texture and this world is a revelation". In choosing Ranveer's performance, he continued: "Singh spends much of the silent film, as Murad drinks it all – predictions, wishes, dreams suddenly emerging … Armed with a microphone or words, Singh is unstoppable. "
The film should open at 18 rupees. -20 crores the first day, with five-day projections touching the mark of 100 crores. Gully Boy arrives just two months after Ranveer had the biggest solo success of his career with Simmba.
