It seems that video streaming platforms are on top, especially Hotstar. The platform has come up with a new subscription plan called Hotstar VIP available at Rs 365 for a year.
What will the plan propose? It will allow users to watch live cricket matches. This will prove to be a lucrative business for the company with the First Indian League (IPL) around the corner and the ICC World Cup scheduled for May this year.
Hotstar witnessed an increase in the number of viewers. More and more people want to watch the 60-day IPL via the streaming video platform, thanks to its lucrative plans and strategies. Last year, the platform saw more than 202 million viewers turn to it to catch up on IPL matches.
Subscribers, who already benefit from Hotstar's All Sports annual package, will receive a free upgrade to the new VIP package at no extra cost.
At the same time, the new plan will also allow users to watch Star Network programming before it airs on television. The company said the network would be available at 6 am
Something similar has been discussed at FICCI Frames, one of the biggest media events in India. Tarun Katial, CEO of ZEE5, said people are willing to pay for TV content. "It's just that it has to be broadcast before the TV," he said.
He also pointed out that the subscription is growing and that people are finally realizing that they can choose their content. While payment portfolios contribute to the growing subscription base, Hotstar offers a cash payment option, which would be the first option of this type offered by an OTT (over the top) platform.
Using the cash payment option, users will be eligible for VIP benefits immediately and the money will be collected at their home within 48 to 72 hours. In addition, users will now be able to connect with phone numbers.
Each video streaming platform focuses on original and exclusive content, with Hotstar not being different. The original content of Hotstar will be available to those who subscribe to the VIP plan.
Along with this new plan, the company also launched its first Hotstar Special – The Lion Roar . This is the story of the rise of the Chennai Super Kings IPL team under the direction of MS Dhoni. This is not everything. There will be other special shows under the Hotstar Specials label, such as Criminal Justice, City of Dreams, and Hostages .
Competition in the OTT space is becoming increasingly difficult every day with players proposing new strategies and focusing more on the original content. Earlier this year, Hotstar had announced its intention to invest about 120 billion rupees in original content.
