How Game of Thrones uses costume design to show its power

Sansa Stark and Cersei Lannister are two of the most recognizable enemies of Game of Thrones . But although they are located on either side of Westeros, their costumes have a lot in common.

From the beginning of the show, their outfits are mirrors. When both women are oppressed and weak in previous seasons of the series, they wear casual and pastel clothes, which shows their lack of power. As their intrigues become more complicated, they do not "camouflage for survival" – clothes used to hide secrets and blend with surrounding enemies. And when Cersei and Sansa begin to badert the power of their homes in subsequent seasons, Lannister Lions and Stark Wolves become the focal point of their clothing.

In the final season of the series, the two women's costume design ignores military-style accents on their blouses as they prepare for battle. These high-necked dresses evoke images of each family's armor, filled with defensive details such as epaulettes and draped chains. And although the two leaders have learned different lessons about war and family, it's fair to say that their outfits are there for a reason.
