How Pokemon Detective Pikachu Compares to the Video Game

Detective Pikachu's movie was heavily inspired by his predecessor of the video game, but in the process of going to the big screen, many details regarding the Tim and Pikachu's adventure have been altered – although I support many changes have improved their story for the film.

This list of changes and similarities was made based on the most dramatic changes to the characters and the story.

similar: Mewtwo was in the game, but had a different claim

In the detective Pikachu Game, Mewtwo has never been captured by a mysterious organization. Instead, a group of scientists discovered Mewtwo cells that they confused with those of Mew when they were trying to create a miracle drug. They instead created R, a drug that made Pokers furious.

During the Harry and Pikachu R investigation, they fight with a unique villain. only to be thwarted by a serious car accident shortly thereafter. The accident ejected Tim and Pikachu through the front window. As in the film, it is at this moment that Mewtwo approaches Pikachu and, unlike the film, asks Pikachu to recover his bulging cells. This Mewtwo also has a deep distrust of humans. Mewtwo threatens to destroy, well, "everything", but Mewtwo finally reveals that Pikachu convinced him not to do it. Their fusion is implicit only in the game, but it has not been fully confirmed. Different: there were many more mysteries to solve

The game relied heavily on the ability of Pikachu to communicate with Pokemon to solve the mysteries, but the film For example, the first mystery concerns an Aipom mischievous and a stolen collar. Tim and Pikachu discovered a secret room that was left of the old laboratory that was home to a lot of research on R, but he still lacked the dangerous Greninja and Gargantuan Torterra of the film.

However, a Torterra appears in Detective Pikachu's pre-book! Pikachu remains stuck in a hole in someone's yard and Torterra saves him. It was a nice, normal-sized Torterra, and a key element of the mystery that Pikachu solved for a character in the previous story of the game.

Similar: Detective Pikachu was not addicted to coffee, but he loved coffee

OK, maybe he was addicted to coffee but he was more of an aficionado There was even a function in the game where you could talk to Pikachu and get advice on coffee, among other things. (This was surprisingly informative!) Hi-Hat coffee was much more present in the game Detective Pikachu. Pikachu and Tim Ludicolo often brought them coffee prepared by his partner, Pablo Millan. It was nice to see that Ludicolo was making a quick appearance in the movie.

Different: Lucy was not calling Lucy and she was not intern

Lucy Stevens, the spunky trainee with a Psycduck partner, is an original movie character. In the game, Lucy's role was shared between two women who worked full-time at GNN. One was a cameraman, Meiko Okamoto, and another Emilia Christie, a GNN reporter who looks a little bit more like Lucy. These two people worked together to solve the mysteries of the growing number of Pokemon incidents in Ryme City. None of them had a Pokemon partner, but they helped Tim and Pikachu from time to time.

Similar: Tim Goodman still takes the back seat of detective Pikachu

. but the game still sees Tim as a self-inserting character, which makes sense. Tim arrives at Ryme with the intention of investigating what happened to his father rather than coming to town with the belief that Harry Goodman is already dead. The details of the rest of Tim's family are not really centered in the game, and the details about Tim's relationship with Pokemon are not really explored either. Tim's game version is also easier to live with, but he also gets a pretty significant amount of Pikachu teasing. He is still the only human able to understand Pikachu and has no partner, himself Pokemon.

These are not all the differences between the game and the film, but they are the ones that have the greatest impact.
