Prince Philip apologized to the woman, Emma Fairweather, who broke her wrist after being involved in a car accident with her Land Rover Freelander earlier this month.

In a letter to Fairweather, the Duke of Edinburgh, 97., stated that he had not seen the car as he was retreating to the junction near Sandringham.

The Duke, who was removed from the car accident by a pbaderby, blamed the accident on the fact that "the sun was shining low on the main road".

He said: "I would like you to know how sorry I am for my role in the accident", and wish Fairweather "a speedy recovery from a very painful experience".

"I was a little shaken after the accident," Prince Philip wrote.

The letter dated January 21 was signed, "Sincerely, Philip" in blue ink.

"But I was greatly relieved that none of you were seriously hurt," he said.

He also wrote in the letter that, as a crowd began to gather, he had been advised to return. A local police officer went to Sandringham House.

"I have learned since you had a broken arm, I am deeply sorry for this injury," he said.

After the case, the Duke was photographed driving a new Land Rover without a seatbelt and the police spoke to him.

Emma Fairweather, 46, was a pbadenger in a friend's Kia, with the baby of her friend, nine months old. when the collision with the Land Rover of the Duke of Edinburgh occurred on January 17.

The accident occurred while Prince Philip stopped on the A149 near Sandringham, in the Queen's Norfolk Estate, 10 days ago.

The apology comes after Fairweather said in an interview that she felt "ignored and rejected" because she had not received apologies from the duke.
