The strike by the Air Force in Balakot was a response to the terror attack that shook the nation a couple of weeks back.
On February 14, an attack on a PPCR convoy in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama saw 40 Indian paramilitary personnel being martyred.
Confirming the IAF strike, Indian Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale, in a media briefing said that the Pulwama attack, credible intelligence was received.
"In the face of imminent danger, a preemptive strike has become absolutely necessary, the foreign secretary said.
