All roads led to the YMCA field in Nandanam on Sunday where Maestro Ilayaraja gave a concert in front of a packed audience of actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. The show, hosted by the Tamil Film Producers Council, was a nostalgic trip for fans of Ilayaraja, who crowned his hit numbers from the late 1970s and 1980s. Ilayaraja resumed his harmonium and set himself prepared without stopping for more than four hours.
Hardly the show began that Ilayaraja called Rajinikanth on the stage. Rajinikanth shared his experience with Ilayaraja
On a lighter note, he declared that Raja Swamigal (he called it so for his spiritual inclinations) had always given the best for Kamal Haasan. In intervening, Raja, said: "People like Ramarajan and Mohan had the maximum number of hits composed by me."
"Among my songs, I love Podhuvaaga Enn Manasu Thangam of Murattu Kaalai and Raman Aandaalum Ravanan Aandaalum in Mullum Malarum "said Rajini.
When the maestro said: " Enkooda Saraswathi irukkaanga. Lakshmi avalo illa (I have the goddess of education with me and not much of the goddess of wealth), Rajinikanth, apparently making reference to the claims of kingship for her song, replied immediately: " Ippo Edho Panreengale … Adhula Vara Lakshmi Ellam Ungalukk Dhane … " (laughs).
When Rajini called Ilayaraja the music superstar, Ilayaraja stepped in to say, "There is and there will be only one superstar at the cinema, Rajinikanth. "
