The Roma sided 0-2 against Real Madrid (Bale, Vazquez) at Olimpico. Solari's men are leading Group G. Here is our quick reaction. Upcoming: Player Rankings, Tactical Review and Podcast after the game.

Santiago Solari surprised everyone tonight, leaving Isco out of the team while making Marcos Llorente the anchor of the team. Isco, was reported was in great shape and was left out by Solari for technical reasons. Llorente, meanwhile, was a good surprise, because the team obviously did not have the usual anchor who feels more natural to put in position and to stifle attacks.

Llorente cameo was excellent. So far, he has only played 10 minutes this season (and well in this small sample), and tonight's performance reflected what this team desperately needed in the absence of Casemiro. Some of Llorente's recoveries will not appear on this statistics sheet; but by the sixth minute, he dispossessed a Roman player to start a counter-attack, bluffed a Roman marker on the 11th and was in good position throughout the defense match – what Ceballos (without any fault on his part) could just not.

Llorente even had moments when he acted as a ball carrier in transition. Some of his deaths had to be better. Although it seems comfortable to dribble restricted spaces and play short pbades, its vertical distribution still needs to be polished. Once again, however, he had a significant presence tonight.

The head coach of Roma Eusebio Di Francesco, as he has done in the last two confrontations with Real Madrid, played a very high line. This caused a lot of problems for his team at Bernabeu earlier this season, and that seemed like a mistake from the start. Real Madrid started well this match looking for a line operation – the attack seemed dynamic, and the press was good – but the problems of offside have resurfaced and the Roma has integrated the game and created more danger.

And the men of Di Francesco were present. the best team in the first half. Despite all the chances of attacking Real Madrid, they could not get a high percentage look. They could only make two good shots – off the field – and each time they arrived in the Roma area, they were invaded by the crowd, with little space to shoot. Meanwhile, the Romes continued to penetrate the surface with good off-ball runs, were dangerous in transition and had a golden opportunity just before the half-time whistle. Solari's men dodged a ball:

This sequence summed up the problems of Real Madrid this season. Dani Carvajal (who had killed two good attacks after his bad pbad in the first half, yet had some very important defensive interventions), and Ramos was slow to react to Under's race. In essence: bad luck and reckless defense.

Solari did not make any changes at half-time, but a Roma mistake in the 47th minute led to a goal from Gareth Bale, who changed all the complexion of the game:

Things have become easier for Real Madrid. this point. Solari's men had a lot of counterattack opportunities. One of them led to the second goal of the team, on a very beautiful sequence:

It was the routine after the second goal. Real Madrid did not have any waves of attacks, but it seemed compound in possession of the ball, and the Roma really regressed. Certainly, the Romans did not defend themselves particularly well during one or the other match against Real Madrid.

We are all proud of the arrival of Fede Valverde. He has a good stabilizing presence and can help both sides of the field.

This is one of the worst seasons of Real Madrid since the beginning of the century and it has not been as beautiful in Europe. However, since this is the Champions League, register for 12 goals scored and two goals conceded after five games.

Also, launch me .
