In Telangana, nearly half of the candidates are prosecuted

New Delhi: An badysis of the candidates presented by the major parties in the Election Scrum in Telangana State showed that nearly 50% of them faced criminal cases, including the Minister Chief K. Of the eight MIM candidates, seven are facing criminal prosecution . Only 40 of the 119 BJP candidates have cases (33.6%), which is the least of the four parties badyzed. About 65% of Congressional candidates Prajakutami (People's Alliance) and 48% of SRT candidates face criminal charges.

"Some candidates have cases recorded during Telangana agitation, and some have criminal cases and few others have cases of both types," said M Padmanabha Reddy on behalf of the group of organizations

"Of the 119 seats in the Assembly, 365 candidates from the above-mentioned parties Among them, 181 candidates have lawsuits against them. "Political parties gave tickets to winning candidates, regardless of their criminal record," he said.

The president of the Telangana Congress, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, and BJP President, K. Laxman and the President MIM, Akbaruddin Owaisi, are all prosecuted.

Caste and gender representation also skewed

While Telangana has a large Dalit, tribal and other backward clbades, communities were poorly represented in the electorate. 14.2% are Dalits, 9% are tribes and 53% are CBOs.

However, higher caste candidates are overrepresented in the TRS, Congressional and BJP lists. This is particularly the case of two castes: Reddy and Velama.

The TRS presented 59 caste superior candidates, including 37 Reddys and 12 Velamas. The BJP presented 50 upper caste candidates, including 32 Reddys and 10 Velamas. The congress has 41 upper caste candidates. Of these, 36 are Reddys, while four are Velamas. The Reddys make up nearly a third of the candidates among the three parties.

The representation of women is even poorer. The TRS, Prajakutami and the BJP together have only 29 candidates

It will be remembered that the TRS government was strongly criticized for not even having a single woman cabinet member. The party does not seem to have taken it into account and presented only four candidates, against six in the previous election.

The Prajakutami, with 14 candidates, has the highest number. The BJP submitted 11 women candidates.
