Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla, who was also present, told the media that "it is the largest Indian visa center in the world and probably the largest anywhere in the world".
The new center will replace the existing Motijheel and Uttara centers on July 15th.
The remaining two centers in Dhaka – Gulshan and Mirpur Road – will also be transferred to this center, located in a spacious commercial area of 18,500 square feet, by August 31.
The existing system of electronic tokens (appointments) for the visa application will also be withdrawn from July 15th.
Bangladeshis are one of the largest numbers of visitors from one country to India, the report says. Last year, the country issued 1.4 million visas to Bangladeshi nationals.
India has 12 visa centers in Bangladesh, which is the highest number of this country in the world, according to the report.
On Friday, Mr. Singh tweeted that India and Bangladesh had made "notable progress in transforming our land and sea borders into zones of peace and tranquility".
This visit took place as part of regular negotiations between India and Bangladesh, said the Indian High Commission in Dhaka
