India climbed to fifth place in the world ranking of men's hockey released Tuesday by the International Hockey Federation (FIH).

India made the jump under its second consecutive final at the Champions Trophy in Breda, the Netherlands, earlier this month.

Winner of the Champions Trophy Australia remained top of the league, thanks to its title win.

The Kookaburras won their 15th Champions Trophy by beating India in a shootout in the final, ensuring that the reigning world champions remain at the top of the standings.

Australia (1906 points) 23 points ahead of Argentina ranked second (1883) and are followed by Belgium (1709) and the Netherlands (1654).

With 1484 points, India pushed Germany (1456) to sixth after fifth place.

Most teams in the top 20 are non-players, although Austria, ranked 18th and 19th, outpaced France, which now occupies 20th place.
