Connections in the worlds of entertainment and beauty may seem fragile or superficial. There is a certain standard of beauty that women, in particular, show from birth and if we do not fit this mold, it may seem both isolate and detrimental to our self esteem. Priyanka Chopra Jonas is determined to break the status quo. Priyanka Chopra Jonas, ambbadador of the SKINCLUSION initiative of Obagi Skin Care – speaks only of buzzwords and measures of diversity. She is ready to do the work.
On a sunny spring day in New York, I spoke with Chopra Jonas about Obagi's SKINCLUSION and his outstanding career that broke through the barriers in India and the United States. It should have been intimidating to talk to one of the most famous movie stars on the planet – but Chopra Jonas immediately put me at ease. Only a few days after the Met Gala, she was sitting and smiling all white. Before the cameras began to turn, we spoke openly about the origin of our names, mine, from the Yoruba tribe in Nigeria, which was granted to me a few weeks after my birth by my father born in Lagos and his, deeply rooted in his Asian Roots. These are stories that unite us all: our differences feel much smaller than they might appear at the beginning. During its 30 years of existence in the beauty industry, inclusion and connection have been at the core of Obagi's skin care – that's why Chopra Jonas was so enthusiastic about connecting with the brand. The alum Quantico has revealed a secret beauty industry that affects her skin care regimen for as long as she can remember.
There is a spectrum called Fitzpatrick spectrum that has reduced all skin tones into numbers, one to six. I am a four. Most of the skin care products you find on the market have done clinical research only on types one, two and three. I spent so much money on incredible high-end products, which I realize now that they have not even been tested. My skin has more melanin, it will react very differently to the sun than the will of someone else. Why is the beauty industry not called? What I love about this campaign is that Obagi is testing its products on all six skin types since the beginning. So, if they can do it, why does not the beauty industry do it?
Regarding the inclusion and diversity in the role of the star Cowboy Ninja Viking this goes far beyond beauty and entertainment. the core of our humanity. For Chopra Jonas, it is not only about improving the world as we know it today, but also about creating a better society for future generations.
We see diversity because we see billboards with all kinds of people. But are we really diverse? Are we talking about it? These are the questions we really need to think about. Of course, the lack of diversity creates a lack of opportunities for people. If you think working backwards, the lack of opportunities creates divisions. I speak of diversity as a whole, not just of race or color, but of religion, [women] opinions, of all different thoughts, we are afraid of it and that creates divisions. The lack of opportunities also affects us socially and economically. So, diversity is not just the name of the game or the check in the box, it's the way we have to lead our lives so that our kids do not even think about it. do not talk about it.
