NEW DELHI: The Indian football teams faced a major setback as the Indian Olympic Association (AIO) decided not to send its senior teams to the Asian Games.

AIO chose not to erase the Indian men's and women's football teams since they found them "incompetent" to win medals.

This decision constitutes a huge setback for the Indian Football Federation (AIFF), which hoped to use the Asian Games' key tournaments in preparation for the Asian Cup next year.

In the last three years, Indian football has leapt from 173 to 97 in the FIFA rankings and has qualified for the 2019 UAE Asian Cup. [19659003] In a release, AIFF expressed disappointment at the IOA and even offered to bear the football team's expenses for the Asian Games if the IOA allowed it.

In addition, the president of AIFF, Praful Patel, called the head of the AIO, Narinder Batra, to explain As a result, letters were sent to Rajeev Mehta, secretary general of the IOA, and Lalit Bhanot, who happens to be the chairman of the Asian Games Preparatory Committee.

However, in defiance of all the facts, the AIO chose the original position of the teams sent between 1-8 to take part, thus closing their eyes on Indian football in the Continental Games.

This movement is considered short-sighted by the experts because it is a stark contrast to the support of both the Ministry of Youth Affairs and the Sports and Sports Authority of India, who have both supported and acknowledged the efforts of AIFF over the past three years.
