November 15 was the deadline for IPL franchises to finalize retentions of their workforce for the 2019 edition of the silver-rich league. The decision to cut and change before the IPL 12 comes before the mega event of the IPL auction that would take place the third week of December.
Australian duo Steve Smith and David Warner, who are currently serving suspensions for their involvement in the balloon falsification scandal during the Cape Town test in March this year, will return to the Indian Premier League after avoiding IPL 2018. Announcement was made by their franchisees, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, respectively. It is still unclear whether they will hold management positions in IPL 12.
In case of loss of the pillars of the respective franchises, Kings XI Punjab separated from Yuvraj Singh during that Delhi Daredevils was releasing Gautam Gambhir – who barely played a role in the previous season despite being initially named captain. The duo will return to the auction. As already announced, Shikhar Dhawan will play for Delhi Daredevils after six seasons.
