Alas, poor Viserion. The Daenerys dragon suffered a multitude of indignities on the screen, beginning with his death at the hands of the king of the night during the battle of Beyond the Wall last season, then his resurrection and his transformation in dreaded dragon responsible for the destruction of said wall during the last moments of season 7
But after the episode tonight, Viserion can finally rest.
In the last moments of Season 8, "The Long Night," Arya Stark took the king out of the night with a brilliant maneuver and Littlefinger's dagger, turning the big bad guy into a million small pieces of ice and suppressing the army of the Dead for good.
Of course, that also meant that she had sent Viserion to her final death, because all things created by King Night – the White Walkers, the Wights and, yes, the Wight Dragons – were dying after his defeat .
There were also some scary moments with the other very live dragons of Dany during the episode. Before the death of the king of the night, Viserion attacked Rhaegal, the dragon Jon was riding. He seemed mortally wounded to the point that Jon had even fallen from him.
Fortunately, Rhaegal appears in the teaser of the episode next week, proving that he is very much alive:
