The Department of Irrigation and Floods, Jammu and Kashmir, issued an alert Friday flooding when Jhelum sank over the critical area of Sangam in Anantnag district.All schools in the valley will remain closed on Saturday because the Met department has forecast more rainfall over the weekend. The department has urged people living in areas along the banks of the Jhelum River, from other streams and in low areas to remain vigilant. Srinagar recorded rainfall of 12.6 mm until 8:30 Friday
Meanwhile, the movement of pilgrims to the shrine of Amaranth via the Baltal road was suspended due to rains incessant. However, 1,263 pilgrims traveled by road from Pahalgam-Chandanwari to Sheshnag on Friday morning. Governor N N Vohra reviewed the flood preparedness.
