According to a report, Hong Kong-based action star Jackie Chan and Chinese actor Wu Jing will meet for a film that will trace the first-ever Chinese summit to Mount Everest, tentatively titled Climbers and directed by Hong filmmaker Kong Daniel Lee and produced by Shanghai Film Group in 2011 action-drama film Shaolin.
The film will feature a dramatized version of the expedition experienced by Chinese mountaineers Wang Fuzhou, Gonpo and Qu Yinhua, who made the historic ascent of Mount Everest's northern ridge in 1960. The Chinese Teams Wang, Gonpo and Qu were the first to climb the northern flank of Everest, known to be particularly dangerous.
Once the climb was over, the trio of mountaineers left a small statue of the communist revolutionary Mao Zedong atop the summit. Before returning, the three mountaineers also saved a fourth member of their team, unable to complete the climb. In addition to the main actors Wu and Chan, the film will also feature the actor Jing Boran and television actor Hu Ge. The actress Zhang Ziyi will play the role of a Chinese meteorologist who badists the climbers in the mission.
