The last six months or so have been a busy adventure for director James Gunn. After his removal from The Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 it was inevitable that Warner Bros. choose the filmmaker for a project DCU . Indeed, it was announced a few months ago that Gunn had been hired to write the screenplay for a new film Suicide Squad . Curiously, at the time, nothing seemed to indicate that Gunn personally directed the film, but, just as in his collaboration with DC this also seemed inevitable.
THR confirms that Gunn is now officially negotiating to lead The Suicide Brigade . We also know that the release of the film is scheduled for August 2021, two months after the spectators were finally able to see the highly anticipated film Matt Reeves The Batman ! In addition, THR adds that the film will be less a sequel and more of " a revival, " with The Suicide Squad in a new direction compared to its predecessor of 2016 and with a distribution of " mainly new characters ". It is likely that the two most likely actors to come back are Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller).
Personally, I think this is great news. Not surprising, but excellent nonetheless. Gunn has a great sense of wit and humor in his films and really knows how to captivate the audience with his weird characters. Although the comparisons with The Guardians of the Galaxy are inevitable, I think that Gunn will go perfectly with The Suicide Squad .
