Defender James Gunn was Filmmaker rehired by Walt Disney Films to direct the third installment of the series. Gunn had been sacked by Disney after his controversial old tweets about child abuse surfaced on the Internet some time ago.
While Disney and Marvel have not yet made an official statement, Gunn thanked Twitter for its fans. their love and support in an emotional post.

After his dismissal, Disney had replaced Gunn by no new director. According to a Variety report, Gunn will also write the screenplay for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, which is scheduled for release in 2020. In addition to the Marvel project, Gunn is in talks to write and direct the sequel to DC's Suicide Squad, which will feature a conflict of interest for the filmmaker because Marvel and DC are old rivals.
The first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies were a critical and commercial success, accumulating $ 1.6 billion at the global box office.
