Johnny Depp sued for non-payment of bills by a former lawyer

The Hollywood actor Johnny Depp was the victim of a $ 350,000 ($ 1.28 million) lawsuit brought by a law firm that claims not to not having paid his bills.

Depp retained the Buckley LLP law firm in 2017 to sue his former law firm, Bloom Hergott LLP, for collecting $ 30 million in fees without a written agreement, reports varieties.com .

Three Buckley lawyers – Fredrick Levin, Michael Rome and Ali Abugheida – worked on the case until last January. Levin successfully defended the case at a summary judgment hearing in August 2018.

Depp is now represented by Adam Waldman and Brown Rudnick LLP's attorneys. The case is currently scheduled to be judged in September.

According to the complaint, Buckley allegedly charged the actor $ 535,697.28, which represents a 10% discount on the company's hourly rate.

The lawsuit indicates that Depp's representatives notified Buckley LLP in January that he was giving up the firm because he was seeking to "contract the number of law firms that provide him with services",

Edward White, the representative of Depp in the case, told the company that he had "a high regard" for Levin and that the actor was planning to pay the overdue fees in the first quarter of 2019.

"The plaintiff has received other badurances regarding the payment of Depp agents, most recently with promises to pay the full amount due in mid-May" , declares the lawsuit.

These promises were not kept, according to the lawsuit.
