Although the remake of Arjun Reddy Hindi sounded the cash registers, the film was seriously criticized for glorifying misogyny. While Shahid Kapoor was criticized for accepting the project, director Sandeep Vanga Reddy was criticized for abusive and toxic relationships in the film.
However, Vanga tried to defend his position in an interview. He said: "When you are deeply in love and deeply connected to a woman (and vice versa), if you do not have the freedom to slap you, I do not see anything."
The filmmaker also criticized the critics by saying that they probably never lived (love) the right way. "For the Telugu movie, people have criticized many aspects of the film, but here they were just feminists, they were not talking about anything, they probably hated me."

Kabir Singh is a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy, in which Vijay Dever akonda starred in the lead role.
