The new star of the Hindi film industry, aged 28, talks about her upcoming film from her parents who are getting used to the life of her life . Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety he finds it odd that big jungle that is Bollywood.
How do you feel to call the next big Bollywood thing?
I love the attention. These are big words. I really wish to live up to them. I hope people will continue to love my films. I do not want to be part of these joa hain aur chale jaate hain. But fortunately, it's not a movie that worked for me. Despite the ups and downs, people have been positive towards me, so I'm really happy. However, I have a long way to go. I think the big comparisons are done too early. Let's wait a bit, let some movies turn.

You've been loved in Punchnama movies, but things have exploded after Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. Despite the popular performances, what took so long?
Punchnama's films were much more than me. Of course, people remember me about these films, my characters, the monologues, but that was not the case. Sonu did it. Sonu's heroism and the emptiness that everyone has of a Sonu in their life, I think that my character has tapped into this space. We all want a friend like him who has good intentions and can go to any extent for us. I think this feeling is related to people. Then our music album was the album of the year.
How did he work with Kriti Sanon and Aparshakti Khurana at Luka Chuppi?
There is also Pankaj Ji (Triapthi), Vinay Pathak Ji and many other actors. It was great to work with Kriti. We did not need to break the ice, we really gelled well. This is a very receptive actress.
Pankaj ji, again, is amazing. I have learned a lot from him. I have a lot of scenes with him and we worked very closely during the filming of Luka Chuppi . Aparshakti is also a fabulous actor. His cartoon timing is amazing. It feels good to work with good actors who make the scene go beyond what is written in the script. With all in one frame, I had a gala time. I was working for the first time with so many actors in individual scenes and we feed each other. It was unreal. Everyone was so invested in their roles that sometimes we felt like we were not acting at all. It was a very satisfying experience for me.
Most of Luka Chuppi's songs are re-created versions of popular songs. Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety also had some reworked versions. What do you think of such songs?
It totally depends on the film and the producers. As if you are talking about Sonu, there were situations that required these songs. They all had a point of reference. If you do not blunder, then it's not a bad thing, in my opinion. People appreciate these songs.
There are speculations that block all this year. How many movies do you currently have?
Itni bhi films nahi ki hai sign. And I have a few dates. Kuch aur achhe content ko fit karne ka certainly reach hai.
How do your parents react to your dating rumors?
They are used to it now. They do not take it seriously. They only read the news, discuss it with each other, sometimes discuss it with me, but since I do not react, they do not usually ask these questions. They are happy that I focus on my work. I still do not know how to react to these rumors.
When you arrived in Mumbai, you hid from your parents that you wanted to become an actor. Now that you have become a star, is there a feeling of validation?
Of course. You feel that people have started to believe in you. My last film had a respectable box office number, the kind of response that viewers and industry representatives and the type of offers I was finally getting, that gives the impression that kuch toh sahi kar raha hu.
Do your parents have the same feeling?
They are always afraid, especially my mother. She will always be. She is right also because it's a bet. You do not know what will happen. You may think that your next project has the best screenplay, is the best film in the world, but it may not work and vice versa. Therefore, his reservation. But somewhere, she's glad I can do what I wanted to do.
Up until now, you have played widely in romantic comedies, but you said you are looking for darker and more diverse roles. Which directors do you want to work with?
Sanjay Leela Bhansali Sir. He is my favorite director. The list is long but Sriram Raghavan sir. I have been a fan of his work. Anurag Basu Sir. They create such strong characters, of the kind that I would like to explore.

Between Sonu and Luka Chuppi, what has changed in you?
I was quick with a lot of things, like making decisions. I was never so fast because time did not matter because I had a lot at the time. Now I have to make decisions in seconds.
I also do a lot more work now. Previously, I thought I would only work in one movie a year. It has changed now.
As a stranger, what is the most bizarre thing about Bollywood?
Jhooti tareef karna, both sides being fully aware that they are fake. I find it very amusing, especially as you watch two people exchange fake jokes as a third person, knowing very well that they both know that they mean nothing.
Have you done it yourself?
No, I do not do it. I will only make a compliment if I really mean it.
