Katrina Kaif, who teams up with her first co-star Salman Khan in their fifth film together, Bharat is very excited about this year. Playing a performance-oriented role in the great film Eid, the star is preparing to develop its film production company as well as a beauty brand during the second half of the year. Excerpts from an interview

Your character in Bharat looks different from the roles you previously held. Was it difficult?

It was very difficult. I think that my role in Bharat is the best I have done so far in my career, regarding the depth of the character and the role of a woman from 1975 to 2010, which has lasted 35 years. It was to maintain a sense of continuity. The emotional journey, its strength and sense of gravity, the way it was written and all that I had for the performance. My character Kumud is a strong, fun and lively woman. She is not afraid to say what she thinks, she is not weak. It's a fantastic learning experience, probably the most rewarding and inspiring moment I've played with it.

How was he again in a team with Salman?

The public respects the films we made. They do not give you room to maneuver because you are together on the screen. If you see Ek Tha Tiger, the film was well badembled in 2012. At the time, no one was doing a movie like this, but Kabir Khan did it. With Tiger Zinda Hai, it was a step forward. With Bharat, the effort is to progress even further. Ali (the director Ali Abbas Zafar) is of the same opinion with his stories, and we tried to do it during our performances. The story has a heart and a soul; we simply had to run it on the screen.

So, since Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya (2005) until now, how has it evolved?

Since I started making movies with him, he has always been extremely focused on his work. But his goal is bigger now. I saw a big change at the time of Dabangg (2010), he had a sense of novelty in the way he approached his work. This happens a few times for an actor, when you are exploiting something new that expands your horizons, your potential and your range of actor.

From the current generation of actors, what movie and performance choices do you admire?

I loved the latest movies by Vicky Kaushal. He does a good job. I even like the kind of roles that Ranveer Singh played, pretty good things. Even Alia Bhatt does a good job.

Are you ready to try digital media or do you think you're still too familiar?

I do not think there is more hesitation about the platform. It's just that you want something that justifies being on this platform. You want scope and material justifying that you come on it. If that's the case, I'm open to the digital platform.

Now you become a film producer. Are you someone who has business acumen?

I adopt the creative side. With production, there are some ideas that fascinate me and hope to put my name on it. And when it is time for me to team up with people, there is a company that I launch into the beauty industry later in the year. I have partnered with the most powerful beauty space partners who know the work, creativity and personal things that concern me. It is therefore important to team up with the right people in the industry you are engaging in.
