The trailer for Kesari was released in February 21. The film, which garnered more than 20 million 24-hour viewing, sparked public interest in the historic 1898 Saragarhi battle. The battle of September 12, 1897, in the North-West Frontier Province (now Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan), is: Two Sikhs of the 36th Sikh Regiment (today the 4th battalion of the Sikh Regiment) of British India defended a post in the army against more than 10,000 members of the Afghan tribes and Orakzai.

The British government awarded the martyred soldiers the highest honor of battle of the Order of the Indians of the grade of merit II. This story has been written in several books, including in a documentation of the Punjab captain Captain Amarinder Singh.

Kesari, directed by Anurag Singh, presents the captivating story on an epic scale with Akshay as Ishar Singh, accompanied by a turban and of a beard. The film is also performed by Parineeti Chopra.

Two more Hindi films about the Battle of Saragarhi were in preparation, but they were set aside. Ajay Devgn was doing His Of Sardaar: The Battle of Saragarhi, a project that he had announced in 2016, and there was another film by Rajkumar Santoshi, The Battle of Saragarhi, starring Randeep Hooda.
