Lakshmi's NTR, biopic of the political actor NT Rama Rao, directed by Ram Gopal Verma was screened Friday in the country and abroad, with the exception of Andra Pradesh
The film seems to have been copied in a few hours and downloaded Movie Sharing Websites, downloaded on phones and cut into clips to be shared on social media sites by Telugu political opponents Desam Party and NTR fans. Articles also become viral.
Lakshmi's NTR is NTR's second biopic, founder of the TDP and chief minister of United Andhra Pradesh, to be released within three months. The first, made in two parts (Kathanayakudu and Mahanayakudu), was produced by NTR's son Balakrishna. However, it did not work very well at the box office.
The second biopic arouses controversy and interest since its director, Ram Gopal Varma, announced his intention to capture the events that led to the ouster of NTR in 1995. The role played by Chandrababu Naidu in the events known as the "August Crisis" did not stick with the supporters of the NTR.
The TDP is worried about its negative impact as it faces a crucial poll on April 11th. courts seeking to defer the release of the film until the end of the poll. While the Telangana High Court had refused to intervene, the High Court of Andhra Pradesh had suspended its publication until April 3, when it wanted to view it before making a final decision .
It remains to be seen if the producer and director of the film will complain about the pirated versions.
