The legendary Bengali actor Chinmoy Roy, known for his excellence in comedy roles, died of a heart attack, said a source close to the family.
Chinmoy Roy, 79, died Sunday at about 10 pm in his Salt Lake residence here.
Born in 1940 in Comilla, now in Bangladesh, Chinmoy Roy began his career with Bengali group theater before making his film debut in 1966 with the cult film Tapan Sinha Galpo Holeo Sotyi
He has carved out a place in the genre of Bengali comedy by playing memorable roles in such films as Basanta Bilap, Dhanyi Meye, Nanigopaler Biye, Mouchak and Subarno Golok . also starred in Satyajit Ray's clbadic film Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne and received applause for his role as the fictional character Tenida in the 1978 film Charmurti .
