Sharing the details of the upcoming eclipse, the ministry said: "The partial eclipse of the moon will begin at 23:54 (IST) on July 27. The moon will gradually be covered by the rainy day. Earth's shadow and the whole phase will begin at 1 am (IST) on July 28. "The total eclipse will last until 2.43am (IST) on July 28th. Then the moon will begin to gradually come out of the Earth's shadow and the partial eclipse will end at 3:49 am (IST) on July 28th. "
Such a duration of total lunar eclipses occurred on July 16, 2000 for a total duration of 1 hour 46 minutes and another on June 15, 2011 for 1 hour 40 minutes.
The ministry also shared details of other celestial phenomena where the red planet Mars and the sun will be facing each other on July 27, keeping the earth in the middle . This will bring Mars to get closer to the ground, making it appear lighter than normal and it will be visible from evening to dawn towards the end of July.
"The brighter Mars will remain very close to the Moon eclipsed in the sky from July 27 to 28 and can be spotted very easily to the naked eye," the ministry said in a statement.
