Luv Ranjan began his career as a director with the comedy film Pyaar Ka Punchnama starring newcomers Kartik Aaryan, Nushrat Bharucha, Ishita Sharma Raj, Sonnalli Seygall, Divyendu Sharma and Raayo S. Bakhirta. The film was loved by the audience and was applauded for the different, fresh story line. The story revived around 3 bachelors who falls in love with 3 girls but the film takes a funny twist in the way.
In an interview, when Luv Ranjan was asked about he discovered Kartik Aaryan and made him well known name, the filmmaker said, "It's a misconception that he is a star because of me. Nobody is a star because of anyone. I was a new director when I cast him, so I must have seen something in him. I was not doing any favors. People say stars change stars, but it's wrong.
After Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Luv Ranjan and Kartik Aaryan went on to collaborate for many movies like Akaash Vani, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 and the 2018 blockbuster Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety
