The third segment, when Rishi's journey really begins, also changes the fate of the film. Mahesh Babu shines especially as a man of heart who finds a real goal in his life.
Apart from Mahesh Babu, it is Allari who possesses the best character writing of the film. The actress is doing a great job to become the emotional anchor of the film. However, his character is marginalized towards the end of the film to make room for Rishi to become Maharshi. Hegde gets lost in the procedure and his romantic trail with Mahesh Babu is underwritten. On the other hand, Prakash Raj and Jayasudha make a good impression despite their limited screen time.
After a period of nearly three hours, Paidipally unpacked too much to justify the path taken by the protagonist. The university segment, in particular, is a little too dragged. It's way too much information about the kind of guy that Rishi is and the lack of emotional emotion makes it all bland. Fortunately, the movie is improving more and more. The second half is well headed, although the story may seem familiar.
