Mars Society president criticizes NASA for failing to build permanent lunar base

Mars Society president Robert Zubrin protested against NASA, saying their bridge projects for the lunar orbital platform were ridiculous and that most of the projects recently launched by the US Space Agency were useless. In an article in The New Atlantis newspaper, Robert Zubrin claimed that NASA had spent considerable amounts of money on various projects without any serious purpose.

According to Zubrin, the best way to enhance NASA's space programs of new heights is by building a permanent lunar base. To make this project a reality, Zubrin wants NASA to send construction materials and supplies to the moon. Subsequently, the space agency should begin to electrolyze the large ice caches of water in the craters of the moon to produce hydrogen and oxygen.

The president of the Mars Society argues that the lunar poles are the best place to build a human base because they offer permanent access to solar energy.

"The Moon's poles are ideal not only because they have craters permanently shaded by water, but also because the highlands are almost permanently illuminated and provide reliable access to solar energy , making them the favorites for a base, as they provide both the raw material and the source of energy needed to make the propellant for hydrogen-oxygen rocket, "Zubrin writes in the article.

Zubrin also thinks that building a permanent moon base is the first step towards a successful human mission on Mars.

"By choosing to establish a base on the Moon, we can restore the confidence of the manned space flight program and enable it to meet the greatest challenges ahead of us on Mars and beyond. to reaffirm our identity as a pioneering nation and forcefully affirm that the future belongs to the forces of freedom by once again surprising the world with what free men can do.We can do all this if we pursue our goal " Zubrin added.
