Fifteen years after its closest encounter with Earth, Mars will be close to our planet again this week
The red planet will be 57.6 million km from the Earth on July 27 . in a celestial event called Opposition – when the sun, the Earth and any other planet, in this case, Mars, line up in a straight line. In 2003, Mars came closer to our planet and it is an event in which the red planet was so close after 60,000 years ago.
Arvind Paranjpe, director of the Nehru Planetarium in Mumbai, said: "The distance between Mars and Earth varies between 100 million km and 56 million km, and Mars and Earth will be about 57.6 million km. One on the other on July 27. These two planets arrive almost as closely every 15 to 17 years. "
Mars and the Earth are the closest planets to each other. But the closest distance between them changes each year because planets can take longer to orbit the sun. On July 27, according to experts, a cloudy sky could hinder the observation. They recommended the use of a telescope, equipped with a lens with a 6-inch aperture, to witness the phenomenon.
