Calling this a "blind case", Sharma stated that she had received vague details about the incident around 2 am. Without wasting time, she created an FIR after collecting information from the Safdarjung Hospital.

After opening the investigation, Sharma said that she was constantly in touch with Nirbhaya and her family.
