He was already a celebrity long before Gully Boy was published, but the making of Zoya Akhtar greatly enriched the legend surrounding Divine – the featured rapper of Mumbai
.

Vivian Fernandes (her real name) is at its peak with India. He's talking about the film, its impact, its new initiative, Gully Gang Entertainment, his first album Kohinoor and many other things.

Now that the movie is out, what does it do?
When Zoya came to see us for the first time, I thought she was skeptical as to whether she was going to do the movie or not, I was skeptical about it but now that she was l & # 39; 39, did and it is seen everywhere, mast lag raha hai . Sab logo ko mazza bhi aa raha hai ye movie dekh ke . People call me and say that they like the movie. Now that he's out, I feel that a weight has been removed from my shoulders.

How did you get involved in making the film?

Everything happened in front of me. When Zoya started the screenplay, she spoke to me, she came out for our gigs. I was also deeply involved in the music of the film. Dub (Sharma, rapper) and I did Apna Time Aayega two years ago. It was a different song at the time – Sabka Time Ayega. Then there is Azadi and Doori, whom Javed Akhtar wrote as a poem and which I converted into a rap song. And Meri Gully Mein, which is very special for me because it was our first song and that Zoya had already thought about using it in the movie.

Are you satisfied with the way Gully Boy has evolved?
I am more than happy. I watched it the same day he went out. Mujhe maza aaya kyuki sir rap ko attention nahi dia . The story of the film is also excellent. They all did a fantastic job. For me, the performances of Siddhant and Vijay Varma stood out because they are new guys and I had never seen anything of them before.

How inspired by your own life?
It's just pieces. All the guys in Bombay will feel like this movie is based on him. Considering where we come from, we all watched what is shown in the movie. The whole angle of the fathers that was used – I know many guys who have lived it. The entire rap scene was very inspiring because our song Mere Gully Mein started everything and attracted so much talent.

Some of your songs in Gully Boy are very political. Was it a conscious choice?
No. For example, Azadi is not a direct hit against anyone. Many political parties use the song to promote their campaign but I do not support them. This is Dub Sharma's song, which he had published two years ago. The verses I wrote correspond to what I have felt all my life since I was a child.

You were famous even before Gully Boy.
I only hope that this opens more doors for newcomers and young artists like me who dream and want to do something with their art. With Gully Boy the platform will now expand for independent music in general and not just for hip-hop.

You recently went to Los Angeles for an interview on Beats 1. How was it?
It was very entertaining because Ebro Darden – the guy who interviewed me has a lot of influence on the world hip-hop scene. I was in America for the first time. I watched Gully Boy only there. I wanted to watch it alone but people even recognized me there.

What is Gully Gang Entertainment? Is it a school? A talent recruitment company?
This is not a school. We can not teach anyone how to rap. It's a platform I've always wanted to create for guys like me who want to do something with music.

What should an interested person do to be part of it?
If you have good music, I'll probably know because I'm constantly looking for what's going on in the scene. Keep publishing your songs and I'll know it.

What were your favorite hip-hop artists when you grew up? Who do you like most about the Indian rap scene right now?
I was listening to a lot of Nas, Tupac, Big L and Rakim. In the current Indian hip-hop scene, I like the Avrutti and 7 Bantaiz groups – they are really good.

How did you find your Divine stage name?
I had used to write gospel nursery rhymes when I was in school. Since then, the name has remained and I have never changed it.

A little rap consists of channeling internal anxiety. Are you an impulsive writer or do you think and write then?
J & # 39; expect. I do not force myself to write. It's a lot more fun if it comes naturally to you. It is important that it comes in an organic way. It also gives you the opportunity to develop as a writer.

Aside from Gully Boy's songs, which of your songs do you prefer?
I like Jungli Sher, Farak and this new song, NY Se Mumbai, with Nas and Naezy. I'm listening a lot these days.

What was his collaboration with Nas?
It was the best feeling in the world. He has been the most influential hip-hop artist of my life. So it was like a reward that I've never had. Maza aaya.

Your first album, Kohinoor, will be released in April
. That's all that has happened to me and what I've learned over the last 10 years. There are also stories of my childhood. As it's my first album, it's going to be very personal.

How many songs will he have?
I have not chosen a number yet, but there will be more than eight and fewer than 11.

You often say that you do not feel at home in Bollywood.
I do not want to be used only as a filler. I do not feel at home because we have our own business. But if there is an opportunity like Gully Boy a film that is so much about rap and hip-hop that it makes sense for me to be there.

Has it become difficult to stay authentic as you gain popularity?
Not at all. To be authentic, it is to be oneself, whether one comes from a ravine or not. You have to talk about your life, whatever it is: study in a good school, work in a good office or hang out with stars. There is nothing wrong with that. To be authentic, it is to be oneself.

Your songs are very clean. There is a lot of local jargon, but never a rude word.
Yes, because that's what I am and what I want to promote. It's not fun to throw abuse into your songs. Its not my style.

If you had to define hip hop, how would you do it?
This is the number 1 in the world at the moment. It's my life. This is my teacher that I never had.
