MUMBAI: Ali Kaashif Khan (25 years old), lawyer of the woman who accused the actor Karan Oberoi of rape, is on the run, returned Monday morning to the police of Oshiwara . He was arrested and brought before the court of Andheri, who released him on bail.

Police were looking for him since one of the four youths arrested for badaulting the woman while she was walking in the morning to Andheri on May 25, had told them that he was a member of Khan's family and that it was the lawyer who had asked him to commit the aggression.

When looking for Khan's custody, the police told the court that he had acted as a mediator between the woman and the four attackers. The police also said that Khan told them that "the woman planned her attack on herself".

Khan's attorney, K Thomas Bubu, also produced in court the three-page statement of his client submitted to the police, claiming that he was innocent and blame the woman for her arrest. having "done black magic" to her cousin, who then "did as she did." Khan was charged with criminal conspiracy (Section 120 (B) of the Indian Penal Code), along with other arrested defendants.

The debates between the prosecution who had applied for custody and the defense lawyer, who had asked to be released on bail, lasted more than an hour.

Khan's lawyer argued before the magistrate that the offense was punishable and that his case was under indictment, so that there was no need for police custody. Khan, he said, is willing to cooperate with the police in his investigation and even submitted a statement in which it is clearly mentioned the role of the complainant in the attack on herself and her involvement in the "black magic". Bubu claimed that when the other four defendants had been released on bail and "the main conspirator", according to him, had gone out, the custody of Khan was not necessary.

After hearing Khan's statement, the judge ordered his release on bail with a security of 15,000 rupees.

On leaving the court, Khan told TOI, "The woman used my cousin Altamash Ansari (22 years old) to lead the attack after paying her 10,000 rupees. The planning took place at her home two days before the badault, when I introduced her to Altamash as a person who had contacts within the department. She wanted to organize a #MeToo campaign in Delhi. A few minutes after Altamash 's return from his apartment, I found his behavior strange. When I learned of the May 25 attack, I rushed to help her create a RIP. On the same day, the cops told us that they got their hands on the attacker's bike number. It was then that the woman confessed that she had planned the attack.

However, the woman refuted Khan's allegations. She told TOI: "It's absolutely wrong. The investigation must prove the truth. I've always had a solid case on merit. My original lawyer was doing a fabulous job. As a second lawyer, Khan was more interested in a lawsuit in front of the media and coping with cameras while I was not. I have never manifested myself so far. His program for the media trial was what he knew best. I only know that I have suffered in the market for trusting people blindly. "

The woman then said, "I have never met Khan's cousins and I do not indulge in black magic. I do prayers, songs, etc., which is good for people and I have never hurt anyone until now. He makes false allegations to get out of the situation. I would never have been attacked by anyone in spite of a strong argument, even on false advice. "

She stated that her original lawyer was Sheetal Pandya, who had however handled her case up to the level of the court hearings. "I want to make it clear that I have always had a strong case and that Supreme Court judgments have been favorable to my case." She added that she was seeking to appoint an experienced and trustworthy lawyer.

After the woman was attacked by two men on a bicycle, the Oshiwara police arrested 23-year-old Zishan Ansari on the basis of the bicycle registration information obtained from closed-circuit video footage of the region.

"The arrest of Zishan led to Khan's cousin, Altamash Ansari (22) and the two perpetrators, Jithin Santosh Kurian (22) and Arafat Ahmed Ali (21). All three were kept out of hiding in Santacruz. Altamash told us that Khan hired them to attack the woman. The four youths were subsequently released on bail.

The complainant had also stated that after being cut with the help of a cutter, the men on bikes had threatened to throw acid on her if she did not withdraw the gun. Case of rape against Oberoi.

Oshiwara Chief Inspector Shailesh Pasalwar said that they were investigating the case in the right direction. Another senior police official told TOI that the police would take legal advice before acting against the woman. He added that "even the plaintiff in a case can become an accused".
