Unless you hid under a rock yesterday, you've probably heard that All Elite Wrestling and WarnerMedia have signed a new deal that will see AEW airing a weekly series in prime time on TNT. Nothing else has been revealed on the ground, but The Wrestling Observer's newsletter contains a few more details. The weekly show will be a two hour live series. Although the day of the week is not confirmed, it will be Tuesday or Wednesday evening.
WarnerMedia plans to decide on the evening on which to present the show based on market research. Tuesday is considered a "usual creature" evening for wrestling fans right now since 8 pm is currently the Smackdown time slot. The only problem with Tuesdays is that TNT broadcasts the NBA games that night. This means that AEW, just like the WCW in the 90's, could be reduced to an hour and a few weeks and would be broadcast before the NBA match that night.
If it is aired on Wednesday, it would not have the advantage of being a prime destination for the two million wrestling fans who are currently listening to the United States, but it's not the only way to go. There would not be as many slot changes and they would be able to run the full two hours almost every week.
TNT has not announced a start date for AEW, but is expected to start in October with the start of the fall season. On the last Tuesday, Smackdown on USA will be held on September 24th. Therefore, if it arrives on Tuesday, it could start as early as October 1st. If Wednesday, October 2 is a possibility. Another detail that has not been decided yet is the name of the series. Although the rumor circulates on "Tuesday evening Dynamite", we do not know what will be chosen or when this decision will be made.
AEW is still negotiating television deals in the United Kingdom (with ITV 4) and in Canada, but these agreements can not be concluded until the day of the week is decided by Warner. They also hope to be broadcast in Australia and Mexico, but the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada are considered key markets.
The agreement also includes the streaming of Double or nothing on B / R Live, although the price of pay-per-view service is $ 49.95, so as not to harm the providers of pay-per-view services. The agreement with Warner will probably also see more content on B / R Live, although we do not know what for now. Turner wants a major push for content there.
