The final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup between France and Croatia broke all records in India. In a statement, Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) said the final clash has garnered a total of 51.2 million viewers, the highest of any World Cup matches in history. The one – month tournament has itself set India 's audience record for any World Cup tournament, with a cumulative audience of 254 million viewers.
The report adds that more than 110.5 million viewers watched World Cup across India. Among the states, West Bengal recorded the highest number of viewers with 22.2 million viewers, followed by Kerala with 17.8 million viewers.
The broadcast of live football matches in local languages - Hindi, Malayalam, Bengali, Tamil and Telugu 70.7 million viewers, accounting for 66% of the overall scope of the tournament. The report adds that a total of 47% of women contributed to the broadcast.
