Salman Khan was involved in a controversy when photos of a Shivling covered with wooden planks while filming his film Dabangg 3 were exhibited on social media on Thursday.

Salman, who is shooting for the film in the religious city of Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh, has subsequently issued a clarification and indicated that the Shivling was covered with wooden planks to protect the idol and preserve its sacredness.

The film set was created on the banks of the Narmada River in Maheshwar. The photographs, which became viral on social media, sparked a war of words between the ruling Congress and the main opposition party, the BJP.

BJP de Huzur MP, Bhopal District, Rameshwar Sharma, said that incidents related to the religious feelings of Hindus have been reported. Injuries have increased since the formation of the congressional government led by Kamal Nath last December.

He requested the registration of a FIR for the perpetrators of the incident, accusing him of disrespect for Lord Shiva.

Journalists, Shobha Oza, head of the Congressional Media Department, said the BJP leaders had a narrow mindset. We are not obliged to respond to Sharma's statement, but due to the narrow mindset of the BJP leaders, the state has not known any changes during the fifteen years of reign of the party, she said.

Congresswoman and Ministry of Sport and Youth of Madhya Pradesh Minister Jitu Patwari defended the popular Bollywood superstar and attacked the saffron group. Salman is a great actor who has always spread the message of religious harmony. But the thought of the BJP is full of hatred and this party wants to take advantage of political advantages by creating enmity between peoples. The BJP should abandon this state of mind and no longer create obstacles in state development, Patwari said.

Salman, hurt by the controversy, appeared before the media in Maheshwar and issued a clarification.

According to local media reports, the Bollywood star said the wooden planks had been kept on the Shivling's to protect it and preserve its sacredness during filming.

Shivling and put two people next to keep her and prevent people from walking on them. We had no intention of hurting anyone's religious feelings and we moved the scenery.

Salman is shooting for the movie, the third installment of the Dabangg franchise, since Monday, while actress Sonakshi Sinha has started shooting since Thursday.
