Mahendra Singh Dhoni, former captain of India, is Jharkhand's highest fiscal officer for the 2017-2018 fiscal year. Dhoni paid Rs 12.17 crore last year income tax which is the highest income tax paid by an individual in the region of Bihar and Jharkhand.
Dhoni paid Rs 1.24 crore more than in 2016-17 when he had paid Rs 10.93 crore as an income tax, media reports quoting senior income tax officials as saying. However, he was not the highest taxpayer of this exercise.
According to Forbes, Dhoni is the third most profitable cricketer in India behind Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. Forbes India's list of celebrities with the highest incomes in 2017 ranked at No. 8 in the country with estimated gains of Rs. 63.7 crore.
Dhoni launched his SEVEN clothing line in 2017. He is also co-owner of the Chennayin FC football franchise in the Indian Super League. He is also co-owner of the Ranchi Rays franchise in the Indian Hockey League.
Dhoni recently led Chennai Super Kings to the Indian Premier League. However, his future Team India was source of speculation after a not very brilliant performance against England in the ODI and T20I series.
We saw Dhoni look for the match ball at the end of the third ODI lost against England at Headingley. This sparked speculation that Dhoni might withdraw after the series. However, sources in the management of the team dismissed the speech as "rumors".
Dhoni took an astonishing retirement from the cricket test in the middle of Australia's Indian tour in 2014.
