NASA announces new constellations after Hulk, the hammer of Thor, Godzilla and Doctor Who

NASA has decided to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its Fermi gamma-ray space telescope by naming 21 new gamma-ray constellations, including many references to iconic pop culture.

The new constellations – based on gamma rays versus stars – include The Incredible Hulk, The Hammer Of Thor Mjolnir, The Tardis Of Doctor Who, The Starship Enterprise And Godzilla.

An immediate link to the new additions revolves around The Hulk, as Bruce Banner has become his green counterpart to gamma rays.

"Gamma rays are the most powerful sources of light," NASA said. "They pack enough punch to turn into material under the right circumstances, a transformation that Banner and Hulk would certainly appreciate."

NASA establishes unique connections for each new constellation, especially those surrounding pop culture.

NASA's Mjolnir said, "This constellation symbolizes Fermi's work on gamma-ray flashes (TGF) badociated with lightning storms on Earth, a storm that is a powerful accelerator of natural particles. It can generate subatomic particle fluxes moving at a speed close to that of light, producing a gamma ray flash of about one thousandth of a second. "

For Godzilla, NASA explained that its branded weapon is a heat ray. "It looks at least like gamma-ray jets badociated with black holes and neutron stars."

The TARDIS is more broadly related to the work of scientists on ways to extend current theories to better understand the universe.

"In our universe, astronomers can not travel in the past, but they can examine it by studying the light of distant objects," NASA said. "The more we seek, the more light awaits us, so studying objects at different distances allows astronomers to reconstruct the history and development of the cosmos."

NASA stated that the Starship company has its own connections with the gamma rays. "The engines of the most famous ship of the universe" Star Trek ", the USS Enterprise, are fueled by the annihilation of matter and antimatter, a process that produces energy in the form of gamma rays. "

The 21 constellations can be visualized and detailed on NASA's sky map, where Einstein, Mount Fuji, and the Golden Gate Bridge are also visible and readable in their detailed descriptions.
