Netflix will broadcast a new series based on Nirbhaya rape with Shefali Shah, Adil Hussain

After the much-loved Soni film that focused on women's safety in Delhi, Netflix has now acquired the distribution rights for a seven-episode series inspired by collective rape Nirbhaya. The series of director Richie Mehta Delhi Crime is based on the police investigation conducted in the case that took place in 2012.

Led by Shefali Shah in the role from Vartika Chaturvedi, who is the lead investigator in the case, the series aims to reveal the horrific details of the incident through its main character and the subsequent and rapid capture of perpetrators of the crime by the police. In addition to Shefali, the series is composed of Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang, Adil Hussain, Gopal Datt and Vinod Sherawat

This is not the first time that a film based on the incident is turned. India's Daughter (2015) is a documentary that compiles interviews of the accused incarcerated in this case. A BBC film directed by Leslee Udwin, India's Daughter was not broadcast in India, but was uploaded to YouTube and was viewed by many people in the country. The film Deepa Mehta 2016 Anatomy of Violence was also based on this incident.

Delhi Crime is the first Indian series to be premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, 2019. The first screening will take place on January 29 in the Indie Episodic category, followed by two other screenings on January 30 and 31. It will be available in streaming on Netflix March 22.
