Not to be missed: Twitter went crazy for this handshake after the landing of InSight Mars

This involved many delicate steps, careful planning, careful coordination, and a captivating audience.

If you were thinking of describing the flawless landing done by NASA's InSight probe on Mars this morning, you'll only have enough points to guess. . The @NASAInSight controller held followers at the supersonic speed of the eponymous probe, then slowed down to land softly in a plain (she even answered the first person to Vice President Mike Pence.). Back home, "vigils" were in progress. In New York, people came to Times Square in the rain.

(What you see in the partially obscured part is the western part of Elysium Planitia, a Martian plain.)

This was the eighth landing on Mars of NASA. "Every day," said a Twitter user, "should include a video footage of a control room filled with scientists bursting with joy."
