I've tried to stay away from any criticism, opinion or interpretation simply because I wanted to understand what this film meant to me before talking with others. I'm obsessed with this movie since I see it. I can not get it out of my head. Yours and the slashfilmcast were the first opinions I heard. After seeing the film twice now, I wanted to develop something that Chris said, which was my first interpretation after watching this movie. There are so many references to different horror movies of the 80s that you have often talked about. One of the references, or at least the one I was reading at the beginning, was the fact that there were a lot of subtle images here and there of Native Americans or their culture . I thought this could be a reference to The Shining who also has a lot of that. But when I started to think about it more, I thought this film was perhaps trying to talk at least partly about America's past. On the sins this country has buried (the Amerindian American on the front of the mirror room at first) and on how it is portrayed almost as a myth or fantasy of the past (Merlin later). It would also help to explain the entire statements from the hands of America that the attaches were trying to make. You can not stand across America and try to make a statement about something without the past and the sins that you have committed and are bound to, holding your hand with you. I love all your other interpretations. I want to go see him again to notice more things. I love the fact that this movie becomes a completely different movie the second time you watch it. Here are some elements that I thought about when writing my review and your interpretation: I started in the film thinking that it was perhaps a more psychological thriller, because each character had somehow evil twin ". There is still a part of me who thinks that these twins may be just the terrible parts of us that we all feel like; the other side that has critical or animal tendencies that we (most of us) keep locked up. Instead, I found Adelaide the fighter in the face of her demons and her true nature, instead of therapy, treatment or any other kind of help we were looking for problems. I thought this might be another reason why The Teathered has never been explained in terms of existence; everything is in our head in a dark neurological tunnel. I think I would have appreciated a bit of clarity if this experiment was sanctioned by the government because I felt that The Teathered and humans could unite to fight the enemy common. I had the feeling that Adelaide and Red blamed and hated each other, while none of them should have been. From a political point of view, it is a representation of the Democratic and Republican parties who want the other, or immigrants and Americans who hate each other when none of them has the real power to enforce what he wants. - Mahesh K writes in" I've been listening to the slashfilmdaily podcast on the movie Us (as well as reading the article about the movie slash and all the other articles on the Internet because this film broke my head) and had some thoughts and further readings on the film. For me, much of this film had to do with oppression and potentially with incarceration. For me, that's what rabbits represented to me. Rabbits start in cages (representing the incarcerated), and even when they are released, their life essentially consists of being food for the captives, or simply wandering aimlessly through the tunnels of the captives, not working not really in a society. The red combinations, although probably chosen by design by Red (or, I presume, Adelaide?) And the Tethered for their demonstration, have reminded me of the prison combinations. And finally, the uprising and the manifestation itself. This is the biggest idea that Jordan Peele has for us and I'm not sure I've seen this fake mentioned. What are the Tethered doing? They kill (or try to kill) the ordinary people they replace, and then what? They manage through the American waterfalls which, we know, did not get much in the 80s. I think this is a message that Peele sends to the oppressed or to those who feel oppressed. If you have the impression that some people, just like you, are doing better than you (and there are still some), do not try to hurt or kill them just to get up. Because then what? As I said earlier, I really could not stop thinking about it and when I noticed that there were 55 cages in the foreground I had to think about that to make something rational, otherwise I would not be able to enjoy my weekend.
