Muhammad Safdar decided to go to the National Accountability Bureau: Officials
Pakistani authorities arrested Sunday the son-in-law of the deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who was sentenced in absentia Friday to 10 years in prison for a bribery decision related to the purchase of luxury apartments by his family in London.
Sharif's daughter, Maryam, considered her political heiress, was sentenced to seven years in prison and her husband Muhammad Safdar to a jail sentence of several years is considered a blow to the Pakistani Muslim League party- Nawaz (PML-N) before the July 25 elections.
The Pakistan National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NAB) said in a statement that Muhammad Safdar Earlier in the day, Safdar and his followers had toured the garrison town of Rawalpindi by holding rallies impromptus, showed local television.
"After continuous raids by the National Bureau of Accountability (NAB) at his homes in Abbotabad, Mansehra and Haripur, Captain Safdar decided to go to NAB," NAB said,
NAB also asked the media not to broadcast Safdar's speeches, saying that they are against the law and the code of conduct. After Friday's verdict, Safdar said that "justice has been slaughtered" and denigrated against the judiciary.
Sharif was jailed because the family could not explain how the funds obtained to buy four luxury apartments in the exclusive area of Hyde Park in London. Maryam was sentenced to imprisonment for providing a falsified trust deed, of which Safdar was a witness.
Sharif and his daughter would return to Pakistan on July 13 from London where they take care of the wife of the veteran leader, Kulsoom, who "We will reach Lahore on July 13," Maryam told reporters.
Sharif and Maryam will be arrested on their arrival in Pakistan just before the election, in which his party is in a close race with Imran Khan 's party of opposition figure.
