Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan accused of smuggling foreign currency receives an opinion from ED

New Delhi:

Popular Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan received a notice of formal notice of the Directorate of Law Enforcement. The notice concerns alleged foreign exchange violations, officials of the investigative agency said.

Rahat fateh Ali Khan was charged with violating exchange rates in the amount of 2 million rupees. The singer was requested to respond to the notification of the ED within 45 days

The case against Mr. Khan dates back to 2014, when the investigation agency has opened an investigation against him under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

The singer was caught by officials of the Revenue Intelligence Branch at Delhi Airport in 2011, apparently to have carried an undeclared amount of 1.24 lakh. The singer, however, denied any fault.
