Five people were injured and the railroad service of the western suburbs of Mumbai was paralyzed for several hours after a stretch of a crucial road tumbled onto the tracks.

The incident occurred around 7:30. The pedestrian section of Gokhale Road The bridge, which connects Andheri (East) to Andheri (West), has collapsed on the tracks following rains incessant, damaging aerial equipment as well as part of platforms eight and nine of Andheri station.

Dwarkaprasad Sharma, Girdhari Singh and Asmita Katkar crossed the bridge when he yielded. They suffered multiple fractures. Manoj Mehta was waiting for a train on platform 8 when the debris fell on him. Haresh Koli fell on the rails at Platform # 1 as the rush hour rush became unmanageable after the collapse.

Nearly 500 railway, fire, and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and National Disaster Response Force employees remove debris from runways.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal visited the site in the evening. He added that the railway safety commissioner would conduct an investigation and report back within 15 days. The railways, BMC and IIT will conduct a joint safety audit of 445 highway bridges, overpbades and pipeline bridges in Mumbai.

"I do not want to get into a game of reproach," said Minister Devendra Fadnavis. "The incident has happened and it is the reality, and we will have to hand it over to someone, be it the BMC or the government or the railways."

The Western Railway resumed service between Bandra and Churchgate and between Goregaon and Virar around 9am. Churchgate Services and Goregaon CST at 2:15 pm WR resumed service on the fast-track corridor late in the evening.
