New Delhi : The publication of the biopic on Viverk Oberoi on Prime Minister Narendra Modi is finally scheduled for May 24, a day after the vote count for Lok Sabha. The film "PM Narendra Modi", which was originally scheduled to hit theaters on April 11, was blocked by the Indian Election Commission a day before its global release, claiming that such a biopic would have consequences on the chances of all the candidates in the elections.
"After much discussion and keeping in mind the curiosity and excitement of the film, we decided to release it immediately after the election results of Lok Sabha. We are now publishing our film on May 24, 2019, "said producer Ssandip Singh.
Shortly after the EC blocked the release of the film, the creators of the biographical film presented the suspension challenge to the Supreme Court. Singh had stated that the polling station had banned the film without even looking at it.

On April 17, EC officials watched the film during a special screening on the instructions of the Supreme Court. A committee made up of seven officials in total was present for the screening. The highest court had asked EC to watch the film and make its point of view known by April 22.
After viewing a special screening of the film, the EC had submitted to the Supreme Court a report favorable to the ban on the release of "PM Narendra Modi". Following this, the Supreme Court refused to interfere in the EC order.
Before being blocked by the EC, the film also fell into limbo with opposition parties, including Congress, claiming that its publication was intended for the purpose of influencing voters during the Lok Sabha elections.
The biopic also had credit problems as songwriters Javed Akhtar and Sameer claimed that they had been credited without the lyrics of the film's songs. However, the authors of the biopic later explained that their names appeared on the movie's poster, as they had picked up pieces of old songs written by both people.
Helmed of Omung Kumar, the star movie of Vivek Oberoi, Zarina Wahab and Barkha Bisht Sengupta, among others, is based on the life of the outgoing Prime Minister. The biopic describes Modi's journey from humble beginnings to his years as Prime Minister, to his historic election as Prime Minister of the country. Oberoi tries the role of Modi.
